I recently had the opportunity to take branding photos for a health and wellness restaurant and shop, Real + Raw. This styled branding photography session was hosted by Erica and Jon, a dynamic commercial branding duo based in Florida who specialize in creating immersive learning experiences for photographers.
The session was designed as a collaborative event where photographers from around the country could come together and capture the essence of a small business through intentional branding imagery. Events like this are such a great way to explore storytelling through photography while learning how to translate a brand’s personality into visual content.
While I was primarily there to capture content of the retreat itself for Erica and Jon, I still had the chance to step in and photograph a few branding moments for Real + Raw along the way.

One thing I personally wanted to focus on was creating graphics from the photos to show how branding images can be best utilized by a business. Often, the full potential of an image goes far beyond the photograph itself.
Nobody can see the potential of an image quite like the photographer who captured it with a specific purpose in mind. Because of that, I made it a point to show how something as simple as a photo of the rack of clothes displayed outside the shop could easily be transformed into a graphic or marketing asset for social media or promotional materials.

Erica and Jon also sourced the models used during the session, and it made a dramatic difference in the final results. Working with models who understand direction and brand storytelling elevates the entire shoot. This is something businesses can truly benefit from—asking photographers to help source models they’ve previously worked with to ensure a smoother shoot and stronger final imagery.
